Artist Statement for Selfie Collage
In my selfie collage, I want the beauty of nature and the world to be demonstrated. In the picture of myself I am smiling. I am smiling because in the world there is so much to be happy about, especially in nature. As you can see, in my selfie I am wearing a shirt that says “NERD” on the front. This represents me because I don’t feel the word deserves to mean “boringly studious” or “lacking social skills”. My conative definition of nerd is to be beautifully intelligent and skilled in what you know. I encourage this definition of nerd and this is why I am wearing the shirt. The first layer of my collage is a picture of forest fields off of Prospect road. With this picture I want to convey that this is what the world looks like before humans destroy it to create more homes. The world is beautiful and I want people who look at my collage to see that. My second layer is of sand dunes located in Muskegon off of Lake Michigan. This is actually one of my most memorable moments because I was on vacation with my best friend who recently moved to Vermont two years ago. This picture represents of the beauty of the simple landforms of the world. My third layer is of the sky. I took this on Ridge road coming off of Geddes. This picture represents beauty of the sun. I took this picture because I saw the sun was hitting the camera in the most perfect way I had to get it on camera. While I was taking this picture I was listening to my favorite song “Life in Color” by OneRepublic. In this case, this picture also represents happiness. Another layer of my collage was taken on top of the Willis Tower in Chicago. Looking at that amazing view and taking it all in, I realized how valuable life really is. This picture represents gratefulness for life in itself. The last layer of my collage was a picture of me in the air. In the picture, I am taking everything in. I am in an arched position and my eyes are closed. I am taking in all the beauty of the other pictures I talked about.

Compare and Contrast
One similar concept between both the double exposure and the selfie collage is they both consist of things I love. I love nature and my sisters and these pictures include this. One difference between the double exposure and the selfie collage is that the selfie collage is all about me. On the other hand, the double exposure is less about me and more about who in my life I care about.

This picture shows how I feel me and my sisters are one. Obviously we have our arguments and issues, but deep down inside we love each other very much. The picture represents me because it's all about who I care about in my life. My sister Val is the bottom one and she is smiling really big because she is always recognized for her beauty and kindness and that's what I wanted to capture in the photo. Lexy is my younger sister and I purposely made her picture the largest because her attitude is joyful and happy. Her heart is big so I decided her picture be the largest to replicate that. My picture lastly is there just to complete the puzzle of the three children.
